Help mixing a wedding playlist?

Post by benu » Fri Jun 13, 2008 10:45 am

Hi,
I've just downloaded Audacity on the advice of an IT technician at my school (I'm an English teacher) because I asked how I might mix an iTunes playlist I'd made for my wedding.
HOWEVER I'm not technically-minded or at all flush with time right now (only a few weeks till my wedding) and just looking at the interface makes me panic so my question is -

does anybody know someone who would be willing to mix a playlist for me?? I can pay of course.

This is my first post, so I'm sure I'll be told quickly if this type of request is considered innapropriate.
Thanks!
Ben

It would probaly help to say geographically roughly where you are - as proximity woulk help.

But let me ask a dumb question - why do you need to "mix" it - surely the iTunes playlist you have is already a mix? Why not use iTunes to burn a CD from your playlist? Or use an iPod or laptop with iTunes to play the playlist into an amp/hi-fi/boom-box?

Hi Waxycylinder, thanks for the reply.
I'm near Milton Keynes geographically speaking but I don't think I communicated my problem very well. I can play the playlist direct from the iPod - that's not a problem - I just really wanted to be able to cut long intro's and outro's and blend the songs a little so it sounded better, in iTunes you can preset a crossfade but that doesn't help much if you wanna include a live track that has one of those annoyingly long outros. Of course there are many solutions I'm sure (cut certain songs being one) but I just thought I'd ask in case anyone might be able to offer expertise - I'm looking for the most painless solution!
Thanks again,
Ben

Ben,

you should be able to do all that with iTunes: you can trim off the beginning and end of any song that you have in your iTunes library. Simply right-click on the song and select Get Info. You will see two boxes called Start Time and Stop Time - these default to the full length of the song. Trim the ones you want to and combine with iTunes crossfades and that should do the job.

And don't forget to go back and reset the full length of the songs after you have used the playlist. It may be better, if you have the original recordings of the tracks to rip them in again to a whole new "pseudo album" rather than creating a playlist. Then you can just discard the pseudo album later - or keep it as a memento of the happy day.

Hope the wedding goes well ...

Best wishes,
WC
