Good Morning Audacity Users,
I have a copy of Sound Forge XP 4.0 that I received when I bought a video card and software package many years ago.
I downloaded the current beta version of Audacity and have been making a transcript of a conversation I recorded. My end of the conversation is crystal clear. the other end of the conversation is a mobile phone, very faint and inaudible in places. I was wondering if there are any experienced Audacity wizards out there who might be willing to give me a hand trying to make the 3 inaudible short segments intelligeble for I can make the transcript.
Thank you very much.
Regards,
Martin in New Zealand

Select the faint mobile phone section and apply the "Apmlify" effect.

Re: Assistance cleaning up a short audiofile requested
Good Morning Steve,
Thank you for the recommendation. I had a look but did not locate the faint mobile option in the software program. I did apply the Amplify function to the section of the wav file that is faint and static-y.... but it is still not audible.
I captured the conversation with a Creative mp3 player that happened to be on my desk when we had the conversation and am trying to decipher it for a transcript.

Re: Assistance cleaning up a short audiofile requested
It's audible, but it's not intelligible. Audacity tools all work on existing conversations or music. If there isn't a conversation in the track, or it's being covered up with tons of trash, then there are no tools to help you.but it is still not audible.
Some people with problems similar to yours may get help by applying the telephone filter. Effects > Equalizer. Pull down frequencies below 300 and above 3000 and leave the frequencies in the middle. That may help a little.
The blue bar in the middle is a rubber band. You can click control points and pull it around as needed. This is a sample equalization with three control points.

Recording telephone conversations is not simple and is the object of many pages of discussion.
