Can't Record Voice into Audacity

Post by PatrickRBrown » Fri Jun 13, 2008 1:43 am

I'm sure this has been posted elsewhere, but I can't seem to find it.

I am using an HP Pavillion laptop running Vista. I installed Audacity today, and installed LAME. I successfully imported a taped phonecall I had made on Skype and also imported a song from Itunes. However, I cannot record voice at all. I've gone over and over the Wiki and it isn't really helping. I have the import choice set on Microphone (I'm using a simple mic that works fine with Skype, its not the native mic on my laptop, although that won't work either). I've tried every choice in the drop down menu in preferences and none of them work. I then checked my sound driver (it's a conextant driver), and it claims it's running the most up to date version.

Is there anything I can do to record voice over with a mic on this specific computer? Am I going to have to set up a separate computer running XP just to record voice? Please help me.

Thanks.
