grayed out input selector box, again

Post by teri » Thu Jun 12, 2008 3:04 am

I want to record some music with a voiceover, then fade the music. (intro for an interview.) I don't seem to have a way to switch to a line input for the CD drive. I can hear the music just fine on the headset, but the recording sounds like someone is holding a telephone up to a stereo speaker while I boom away in the foreground.
I went to the wiki, read all the posts on the topic, but no luck. The levels are all set just fine, nothing's muted, but I don't seem to have Realtek. My options are logitech headset, modem #0 playback, and sigma tel audio.
No wrench icons either, that I can see.
How do I fix this?
Thanks!

Is the headset USB? If so, then it is a completely different audio device to your sigma tel sound card.

In Audacity "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" select the audio device that you want to use.
In he bottom right corner of your screen near the clock you should see a loudspeaker icon. From that icon you can open a Mixer Window. Use the "Record Settings" page to select the input that you want to use. You will also adjust the record level from here.

If you have more than one audio device (if the headset is a USB device) then make sure that the mixer corresponds to the audio device that you are using.
