Is your ION one of the ones with a 1/8" mini-jack input? I so, are you plugging your minidisc in via that input. Try it with the ION turne d on and then off - I can't remember which way it worked on my ION.

I got better transfers when I switched to using an external soundcard (Edirol UA-1EX) witg digital input& output - this enabled direct digital transfers and hence no addiotional noise introduced by DAC=>ADC conversions.

The only difference I can see in my way using the ION is that I used the RCA outputs from the back of my minidisc deck rather than the headphone socket.

Going via the lin-in on the PC should work too.

So I'm stumped.

The BIG difference between the ION TT and the minidisk is that the minidisk is going throughyour sound card, the ION TT does not. The ION TT has its own "sound card" built in and just sends digital data into your computer via USB.

In order to record the minidisk through your sound card, disconnect the ION TT from the computer and reboot (this should not be essential, but it is the easiest way to be sure that your computer sound system has not set itself to use the USB input.

Plug in your minidisk player to the LIne input of your sound card and use the Windows Mixer (accessed through the speaker icon near the system clock, or through the control panel) to set the Recording Input to the Line Input. (note that there are usually different pages in the Mixer for Record and Playback).

Now open Audacity and check in "Edit > Preferences > Audio I/O" that your sound card is selected for record and playback (if not, change the settings so that it is and restart Audacity.

Now start playing a minidisk and click on the recording meter in Audacity - you should see the meter respond to the audio input. You will probably need to adjust the output level from your minidisk player and/or the record level in the Windows Mixer to get an appropriate record level.

It depends how he has it configured Steve.

Many of the ION's have a 1/8" minijack input to enable you to plug auxiliary devices (Tape, minidisc etc.) in via the ION and thus use the ION's soundcard and USB devices (hence my question to the poster above about how he was configuring).

Yes I read that - he replied that he was going direct into the sound card (hence my response)

At the moment it sounds like there is no signal coming out of the minidisk player, but we'll have to wait to hear back from deniz666uk.
