Playback Problem

Post by jesusphreek07 » Sat May 31, 2008 1:39 am

I have a song that I want to cut for use in my M.U.G.E.N. game (in a nutshell, it's a do-it-yourself 2D fighting game, if you want more info, consult google or Wikipedia). Being a total n00b to Audacity, I have no idea why, when I try to play back the song (which is in wma format, if that helps), the program jumps through the 9 1/2 minute track in about half a second, and all I hear is a brief, digital chalkboard screech type of sound. Any ideas as to how to fix this so it will play back normally?

Audacity has no idea what an WMA file is, so it tries to load it and play it as if it was uncompressed. The expected length of the song divided by the actual play time in Audacity is the compression. You need to get the work in one of the formats that Audacity understands--MP3, WAV, AIFF, and a couple others.

Let's see, put down four, carry the one. Divide by thirty, times nine ...a little over 1000 to one compression--if your numbers are accurate; that seems a little high.
