I’m having trouble recording streaming audio. I have read the FAQ here about it.

I have Audacity 1.2.6 running on Windows XP on a Toshiba laptop. My sound system is Realtek HD Audio.

My Aud 1.2.6 does not have a “MIC” button to set the input source. So I don’t know if I have a Wave Out or Stereo Mix choice.

I’ve also gone to Control Panel, per the instructions, and do not have a “Sum” option under the Audio settings.

I tried the Audacity beta 1.3.5 and still do not get the MIC button.

I checked the Toshiba website and seem to have the most recent Realtek driver.

Any help appreciated.

The object is to select the sound source that corresponds to what the computer is sending to the speakers or headphones. Sometimes that's labeled "What You Hear" and sometimes "Mix Out." They tend to hide it well because you can get into trouble pretty bad with those tools. The Macs can't do this at all without some pretty serious tricks.

If you just stumped the band and there's no hope, there is a software solution. I have a license for Total Recorder which can record from the PC output sound channel and can do it with a timer and calendar, too. You don't even have to be in the house to get it to work.
