Audacity 1.2.6 Kills Other Audio
After installing Audacity 1.2.6, it seems to work. I records and players vinyl. Other audio now no longer works. I have Windows XP v2002 with SP2. RealPlayer 10.5 and Windows Media Player 11.0.5721.5230 no longer produce any sound. How do I get Audacity to play nicely and share with other sound products?

At a guess you are using a USB turntable. If so the problem is that on Windows, even USB devices that are not meant for playback set themselves as the default playback device, so you lose sound because of that. Please see "Windows system sound requires reset" on:

Re: Audacity 1.2.6 Kills Other Audio
Thank you for the help. That is what I needed. I'm surprised the Audacity manual does not include that instruction. One small correction, though. For Windows XP, the instruction says: "select the inbuilt sound as the default device." That was not listed as an option for me. I set the default device to Realtek AC97 Audio and that restored all sound.

Re: Audacity 1.2.6 Kills Other Audio
The Audacity 1.2.x manual dates back several years, before significant numbers of USB turntables or other USB audio devices came onto the market. Later versions of instructions written by USB turntable manufacturers should mention this problem. As for "inbuilt sound", it's technically correct as that is what your RealtekAC97 device is - an audio device built into the motherboard. We can't mention Realtek specifically (except possibly as an example of an inbuilt device) because your device could be called anything.
Thanks for the reply.
