Microsoft Sound Mapper – Input and Microphone (Conexant High Defin

The USB option is not displayed.

Why is this not appearing (includes 1.3 Beta)?

The USB device must be connected and recognised by Windows before you start Audacity.

If you have Audacity 1.2.6 and 1.3.12, I would recommend that you use Audacity 1.3.12 as it is generally more reliable and has a great many enhancements that are not available in the old 1.2.6 version. If you 1.3.x version is older than 1.3.12 you should update it (Look in "Help menu > About Audacity" for the version number).

UAC3556B is a USB chip.
What is the actual device that you are wanting to record from?

("Conexant High Defin" is the computer's internal sound card)

I think I'd pick that one. Reset Audacity preferences and Quality to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. Restart Audacity. Then go back into Windows Control Panels and make sure it's not trying to send your speaker sound back out to the turntable. That's another common complaint: I plugged my turntable in and now I can't hear anything.
