Today I was trying to record my voice onto audacity and i started playing around with it...bad choice
I have a Sony Vaio and it runs on Vista, it has a built in mic but i started to use a USB mic. i thought i would just disable the built in one since i didn't need it anymore. Once i did, the USB mic stopped working and whenever i tried recording something onto audacity, it wouldn't let me and instead it said
"Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate."
I thought it was just because i disabled my other mic, so i enabled the built in one again and tried recording my voice again with my usb mic plugged in and my built in one enabled.
The same message came up again. I also tried changing the project sample rate but that didn't seem to help either.
I also went to AUDIO I/O but in the recording device section there are no devices, even though in my control panel i know for sure that there are 2 devices enabled.
what should i do?
can't record

Re: can't record
Try resetting your Audacity Preferences to 44100, 16-bit, Mono. Restart Audacity. Mono should be the setting for both your built-in microphone and the USB microphone.
Make darn sure your microphone is selected in the Windows Setup Panels. See if it works.
