Unable to Record

Hi

Using Windows XP. I have only recently installed & used version 1.2.6 which came on a disc with a USB connector I could link to an output on my hi-fi- amplifier and on installing everything it all worked perfectly & I made some successful recordings. I have now tried to make a further set of recordings and I get the error ". Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings & project sample rate".
I have checked my Device Manager & it shows a USB pnp audio device is recognised & working correctly. The Preferences from the Edit drop down menu, however, do not show anything in either the recording or playback drop down boxes. Both of these are totally empty. I did not remove the connections from my amplifier at the end of my previous session, and they are still properly attached. The only thing I have done this time is to connect them back into the USB audio capture device plugged into my computer, and then opened Audacity. Disconnecting & reconnecting has made no difference, neither has uninstalling & re-installing the software.

Can anybody suggest a solution please.

Thanks

Dands

The first thing to do is to ignore 1.2.6 (which is now ancient and no longer supported/updated) - and isnstall the latest Beta Audacity 1.3.12 which you can get from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

You can have 1.2 and 1.3 on your machine at the same time (but both cannot run at the same time) so you don't need to un-install 1.2 And don't worry about the Beta labelling - 1.3 is now a very mature Beta, approaching release candidate status - on most modern platforms it's actually more stable the the officially "stable" 1.2.6.

Also, as you are using a USB device, have a read of this tutorial: http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... turntables

If you still get problems do post back.

Sorry for the delay in getting back, but I've been too busy to try this until today. Many thanks to waxcylinder as the fix seems to have done the trick. I downloaded the 1.3 beta & have successfully recorded a test piece from my amplifier. So I can now get on with learning a bit more about the program and start moving my records & tapes to digital!

Many thanks again

Hi, I am having the same problem as Dands I cannot record. I bought a Digitech Contemporary USB Turntable to record all my old records into my computor. the programm worked for a bit and i managed to record two records but now all I get is the error message that Dands got. I saw Waxcylinders reply and down loaded 1.3.12 betal but it is giving me the same problems I still cannot record, I get the same error message.

@David: have you studied the tutorial on using USB TTs frm my earlier post in this thread?

My guess is that you have your Audacity set to single channel mono - when you should be in 2-channel stereo. Go to Edit >Preferences and select the Devices tab - and in the Recording section set it to 2 channels.
