OK, I am such a rank newb that I cannot even use the right TERMS to ask for help fully.

So, I have audacity 1.2.6
I have a wma file (update: it's a windows media audio file, pardon my obtuseness)
it's about 48 minutes
however....

when I import it into audacity, it plays super rapidly as like a 30 seconds file

I have window 7, home office edition.

I just need to do the simplest of edits of the opening and closing recorder click on my file.
I'm not looking to layer stuff
just should be simple easy peasy
but it's not (

btw,
this is the same case if I
open the wmv file from the FILE menu
Import
or drag and drop

I've been poking around at the YouTube tutorial videos and the forum here, including the FAQs and am not seeing my issue anywhere.
If I'm redundant in asking about this, it's b/c I didn't have the right terms on which to search

OK, with enuf poking around trial and error I was able to answer my own question

wma files not supported!

downloaded most recent 1.3 v of audacity
downloaded the free converter sw to convert wma files to MP3 files: http://www.nch.com.au/switch/
and NOW it plays normally so I can NOW edit it!

With Audacity 1.3.12 if you also install FFMpeg most WMA files will be supported without needing to convert them first.
