Recording failure

I have been recording books on Audacity for 3 years now, and suddenly all I get is a flat line...the program is not picking up sound from my mic. I know the mic works; I use it on Skype. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Did you just recently use it on Skype, or have you been using it on Skype for years?
Skype installs tend to screw up microphones and sound management to suit themselves. Make sure the Windows Control Panels are still pointed to the right microphone/devices, and then go into the Audacity Preferences and make sure they're still correct.
