Recording Sound Is Maxed Out And Yet Tiny

I'm trying to record from an internet radio station. I used to do this all the time on Windows XP then just recently I formatted and now for some reason whenever I record something the sound it records is tiny.

The levels are maxed out as well and still the recorded sound is tiny.

Any advice? I tried searching and I tried playing around with the preferences to no avail.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's not unusual to lose those tools when you reformat. Some of them are hidden or otherwise hard to get to. You didn't say whether you were still in Windows XP or not.

You can get oddball problems like you have if you're not recording the internet radio show directly, but instead using your microphone to record your speakers. That's another pathway that's a little unusual, but exists.

Another possibility is sound card driver software. You may have blown away the advanced sound card software when you reformatted. Make sure you have the latest drivers.

No matter how well you plan, there's always something that gets left out when you burn off your hard drive and start over.
