I am a novice with Audacity but have succeeded in recording and editing my project. I have saved the project throughout the editing. As a last action I imported a mp3 music file for the end of the project. Saved project. Now I can't get the project to open. I get this message: Could not find project data folder. I can see the file (.aud and bak) that I house in my recordings. This sudden problem makes no sense but my untrained thought is that is is related to the music mp3 file I added. Offer help please...but be gentle, I am a newbie.

Your Audacity project consists of two parts: 1) the file ending in ".aup" and b) the folder ending in "_data". Both must exist in the same directory (folder). For example you would have "myproject.aup" (a file) and "myproject_data" (a folder). It sounds as if you have moved or deleted the _data folder, or moved the .aup file to a different location.

If the .aup file and the _data folder do exist and are in the same folder, then it is possible that the .aup file has become corrupted. That can possibly be fixed.

First, make sure the .aup file and the _data folder exist and are in the same folder. If not, put them in the same folder and try to open your project. If that does not work get back to us and we will go to the next step.
