I just purchased an alesis io2 express (audio interface) and decided to use aducity after spending literaly 5 hours trying to set up Cubase. All was going well but when I was playing back what i recorded (from a keyboard) it sounded 1/5 lower in key and out of tune. Any suggestions on why this is happening? If its the io2 what would be a good replacement?

Before getting into possibly complex details, try upgrading Audacity to the current 1.3.12 version

You can get into trouble by plowing right into advanced recording studio settings before you get the basics down. This may have contributed to the failure of Cubase.
Set everything you can to sound standard of 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. Restart Audacity after you change Audacity Preferences. This is the sound standard of Music CDs and it's common as dirt. Make a simple recording and see if it doesn't work better.
Another thing you can try. Play this six second piano clip in your browser...

Now download it and open it in Audacity.

Do you get the same piano solo?

I had already done that (except i was in 24 bit as my interface said it should be)....... i ended up fixing it by lowering the input volume on audicity......
