2 Terrific problems.
Okay...so i just bought a new condenser mic to do some recording with for my band. It was just before i tried the mic for the first time that i realized, when i record in time with another track, and play it back, my recording comes out a little bit too late. It's starting to really become a problem and ive read about the latency topics on the board but haven't found anything helpful. My second problem is that when i play back a track, it is fine, but when i go to overdub on that track, it plays back very scratchy and so quietly i have to strain my ears to hear it. Any idea why this is or how i can fix it? Thanks.

Re: 2 Terrific problems.
Step one. Drop Audacity 1.2 like a hot rock and install version 1.3.12 from here.
http://audacityteam.org/download/
You don't have to uninstall Audacity 1.2, just stop using it.
Audacity 1.3.12 has Latency Adjustments.
