I downloaded audacity and imported a WAV file into it. It doesn't play all of it and it just makes this annoying noise instead of playing the sound. I looked for an answer to my question but couldn't find it. please help! thanks!

What do you mean exactly? Do you mean that the track plays through really fast as a screeching sound, or do you mean that part of it plays correctly and then it does something else?

Then it's not a real WAV file. It may have a WAV extension to the file name, but that does not mean that it is a genuine WAV file.
If you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 and install FFmpeg then you may be able to import the file (Audacity 1.3.12 with FFmpeg supports many more file types than Audacity 1.2), otherwise you will need to use a format converter such as Switch or SUPER to convert the file to WAV.
You will find Audacity 1.3.12 and FFmpeg here:

I have the same problem. If I make a recording, export as WAV and import again the fields are totally filled with blue and the sound is a summertone. Win XP home and Aud 1.2.6 downloaded this week. I-tunes logo on all WAV-files. Does I-tunes distroy recordings not bought through them? Latest recording made from private taperecording

It is highly recommended that you upgrade to Audacity 1.3.12 as the old 1.2.6 version has very limited support for file types and does not support iTunes (AAC encoded) files.
Also install ffmpeg.

I don't use iTunes, but I'm aware that there are some problems caused by iTunes messing with audio files.
There's a couple of articles here regarding iTunes:

Thank you ! After install of 1.3.12 my old and new WAV-files are "normal" again. I dont use iTunes exept for my iPhone from wich I pass over voice memos and pictures to my computer. Before, all older files
showed up as totally filled up blue fields and the sound was like playing a data-CD on a sound-CD-player. Thanks again ! T
