it used to record but not now?

I am running vista and recently had to have the hard drive repalced. I haver been reinstalling my software and just installed audacity. I have used it for some time now, and had used it on this machine prior to the crash. Now it is not recording?
I have read several posts looking for an answer and have done following as a result of reading the posts.
1. I updated the driver, and it said it was uptodate.
2. Went to the realtek website and manually downloded and installed the latest driver.
In the edit menu under preferences all that is lists as inputs is front mike and sound mapper. It sure seems like there was another option there before.
Any ideas or help?
Brent

Try using "Sound Mapper" and select your recording input using the Windows Mixer.

I have selected the mapper, but there is nothing to select from in the mixer toolbar.

I am using the sound mapper and have looked bot on the mixer toolbar in audacity and the windows mixer.
the windows mixer does not list any recording inputs. it lists
devices ---speakers
applications ------ windows sounds
I know that before the Hard Drive crash, when I had audacity working, there was something that had the be "clicked" somewhere but I dont remember where.

I don't have Vista, so I'm not sure exactly how you get at the Windows mixer settings but I thought that there would have been a "Tab" for the recording settings. Perhaps the "Vista" section on this page may help:

Here we have the problem fixed.
I went to control panel, sound, then right clicked mouse then selected "show disabled devices". enabled stereo mix.
audacity ....went to edit, preferences then had the option of selecting the newly enabled device.
I knew it was just a few clicks away..........just needed to know which click to make.
thanks

Glad you got it sorted, and thanks for posting how you did it - this will hopefully help other people who have this problem.
