I have Windows 7 64-bit, it records everything normal, but not my line in, it refuses to record it at the normal speed. It speeds it up to the point where it dont even sound like what it originally recorded. My line in sounds perfectly normal if I just listen to it through my speakers.. any help would be very appreciated, thanks.

oh and I've tried on both the beta version and the latest stable version both giving the same effect.

You can tell by the deer in the headlights pause that this isn't anything like a normal problem.

Does the speed of the recording change during the performance, or you get done capturing and the whole show goes by in seconds?

Close Audacity.

Windows comes with a simple sound recorder...

Windows Sound Recorder
-- Start > Programs > Accessories > Entertainment

Run that on the same Line-In capture and see what happens.

Forget the "stable" version - it is very old and known to have problems with Vista and later. Audacity 1.2.x is no longer maintained so these problems will not be fixed.

Check in the Windows Control Panel and check that the recording format for the line-in is the same as you are using with Audacity (and the same as the other inputs). This should probably be "16 bit 44100 Hz CD Quality".

I'm going with busted sound card. Occam's Razor tells us that it's possible for the computer to be messed up enough to do this and it's possible for an Audacity install to be completely raped, but it's far, far more likely that the sound card is producing bad bits -- particularly if recording the System Sound works (that goes around the sound card) and it doesn't matter which Audacity you have.

If the computer was doing this internally, other computer tasks would be seriously harmed and the machine would certainly not be able to run the hard drive and save files.

Does it work if you use the Windows Sound Recorder? I'm guessing not.

Have you checked this? I recall a previous thread with a similar problem where Audacity was set to 96000 Hz but the sound card was set to 44100 Hz.
