That's the Windows sound control panel setting. Now what do you find in Audacity when you go to Edit > Preferences, then the Quality section

That link assumes you've taken our advice and upgraded to 1.3.12. If you are still using 1.2.x, the preferences dialog looks quite different.

i had this same stupid problem but I got a friend who is obsessed with audacity and he fixed it 1-2-3 so I'll ask him what he did or tell him to join this forum and explain.
