Recording

Post by girgense » Sun Apr 27, 2008 11:11 pm

When trying to record an audio file, audacity is for some reason recording whatever my built-in microphone records. I want to change it (I think) to the sound that comes out of my speakers, but I can't find that option anywhere. I went to Edit>Preferences and my only 2 options for recording device are "Microsoft Sound Mapper - Input" and "Microphone Array (Sigma Tel High)." I looked at the top right of the main screen (to the right of the input volume) where there should be (again, I think) a drop down menu that allows you to change the recording device. But it won't let me click on it. Wtf is going on here? Any help?

Vista? Vista closed off a lot of the handy tools, like recording Mix-Out.

If you're on XP, then you may have the sound control panels set wrong.

Microsoft changed the audio system just before releasing Vista, so a lot of audio drivers for Vista are pants, but some manufacturers have eventually got round to fixing their drivers. Some haven't bothered, but it's worth looking for updated drivers. Also, there are loads of updates and fixes for Vista, so get everything up to date - I'm not sure if Service Pack 1 is an automatic update, or if you have to go and get it from the Microsoft web site.
