No sound when I use Audacity V1.26 with USB and cd decks

Hi ppl
I have a Numark CDMIX 3 decks, USB Capture that I have recently purchased with the included 1.26 Audacity software. I have connected the phono lead in input to the USB capture to the Numark CDMIX 3 Output and configured all the options in preferences/Audio I/O playback device to the USB and recording to the same device and channels to 2 stereo. With this I attempted to record and when I listened and converted the file all I could here is stereo noise none of my mixing. I am thinking of purchasing a ground loop isolator to get rid of the stereo noise sound but does anyone know if this tool is any good
Questions
There is an output which I have not connected any phono lead to in the USB do I need to buy another phono lead and put in the output to the input in the mixer?
Note the USB capture is on the Line option not on phono and the back of the mixer is also on line.
In additon to this the mixer is built in the CDMIX3
Does anyone have any solutions on how I can solve this problem of no sound
If I was to download another programme would I still get a lot of stereo sound when recording?
I look forward to your replies.

I know what a Numark CDMIX3 is, but what is a "USB Capture?"
The Numark has an analog Line-Out. Is there any way you can adapt that directly to your computer? Does your computer have a "Line-In?" That may get you going while we figure out what's happening with the USB...thing.
Hum bucking equipment only works when you get hum and buzz in addition to the show. It's never the reason the show isn't there at all.

Hi
Thanks for the reply. I have just recently got this numark cdmix3 and I mean is the Line in next to where you put the headphones. This USB capture is by is by citronic and you can capture any audio output from any source therefore I should be able to record straight into my PC/Laptop or Mac. By the way I am connecting to a Dell d410 laptop which I am trying to find if it has Line In. It has a headphone and microphone jack only this is why I purchased this USB Audio Capture which I put into the laptop with phono leads going into the input slots on usb and the outputs to the back of the CDMIX 3. I am just thinking two more slots for a double phono but in the instructions of the usb it just says put phono in the usb unit basically as an input source. I'm thinking I prob have to use another programme or take this usb product back and save and build a base monitor on the cheap maybe.
Anyway I look forward to more assistance
Many thanks

<<<I mean is the Line in next to where you put the headphones.>>>
That's going the wrong direction. That's to take music from an iPod or something like that. You want a Line-Out connection. There is almost no detailed information on this mixer, so I can't point you to a particular connector. The ad sheet claims there is a Line-Out back there somewhere.
Yes, if you're using a Windows laptop, chances are better than even that you don't have a Line-In.
Be careful about the words "Phono Leads. "
This cable has 1/8" (3.5 mm) on one end and RCA on the other. Phono is a special type of connection that needs a bit more
work to use.

You can use an iPod or other music player to figure all this out. Get a cable that plugs your headphone output into your USB device. Play some music and try to set up your computer. Once you get that working, then plug in your mixer.
It's really difficult to get two or three mysteries solved at the same time

Hi
Thanks for your replies. I have established my laptop has these ports;
2 x USB 2.0, 1x parallel ports, 1x serial port, 1x PS/2, 56K modem, 1x Fast Ethernet, Headphone out
Other ports Headphone out, Microphone in
Ok at the moment I have my headphone in the cdmix3 in RCA alot. There is a 1/8 3.5mm that is empty so tomorrow I will buy this Twin Phono to 3.5mm stereo jack and attempt it, however if I put the RCA into input on the USB thing it probably will not work if I am putting a Twin Phono lead into the output of the USB to the input of the CDMIX 3. I will give it a try and if it doesnt work I will probably save buy base monitor and connect it to my HDTV/PCmonitor when I am not using it and record like this a PC base monitor will have Line Out. I look forward to hearing from you.

The technical term for the "USB thing" that you have from Citronic is an
external USB soundcard.
It does basically the same job that on onboard soundcard can do for recording - i.e. it takes in an analog signal via the RCA inputs (in your case a signal from your ION mixer thingy) and converts this into a digital signal which is then output to the PC via the USB port.
(incidentally it also has RCA outputs - so can also be used as a soundcard for output too - but don't worry about that for now). Piccie and spec here:
http://www.prosound-dj.com/citronic-aud ... -1455.html
It also appears to have an in-built pre-amp to apply the necessary RIAA curve when recording from vinyl in the Phono setting mode - for your setup with the Numark though you will need it set to the Line setting.
I note that it also has a very useful grounding post built in - you may need to connect this to your ION thingy if you get mains hum
(folks connecting a TT will often need to do this).

Cheers. However i have tried this but I still have no sound of the mix.
Note I have connected from input of the Citronic USB into the output at the back of CDMIX3 and still not working. The option is on Line. Tomorrow I'm going to Maplin and I am considering buying a stereo jack suggested by Koz above which I will probably put into 1/8 in my CDMIX 3 and then the two phono in the input of the Citronic USB. Hopefully I can get this working soon.

Sorry but even after further searching t'interweb I can find no pictures of the outputs of your Numark CD mixer - nor any technical specs.
What you are looking for on the Numark is an output labelled something like Line Out - this could be a 1/8" stereo minijack, a 1/4" stereo jack, or a pair of RCA outputs. You will need a cable to coonnect from whatever aoutput that is to the RCA pair input in your citronic soundcard - and then connect the citronic to your PC via the USB lead.

Update: a quick call to the Numark helpline in the UK tells me that you should have two pairs of RCA outputs on the CDMix3 - one pair is labelled Master Phono, the other is labelled Record Phono. They recommend that you use the output labelled Record to connect to your souncard for recording. In which case you will need a lead which terminates in an RCA pair at each end.
