Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Audacity unresponsive except for keyboard commands

Post by madvillain » Sun Oct 10, 2010 10:52 pm

Hello,

I have two projects of Audacity open. I recorded one track inside each project. Somehow, both Audacity windows have become unclickable, only making a sound as if there is some dialog box open or something that is preventing me from clicking any of the toolbar or any part of the program whatsoever. I can still push spacebar to play or pause the files and other keyboard functions. However, "Ctrl+s" won't allow me to save the projects, both of which I desperately need and do not want to lose.

The enter, ctrl+ commands, and esc do nothing. I can't exit the projects by clicking the "x" in the upper right hand corner to prompt a "Save" option.

I've tried cascading the windows but I cannot seem to find any open box preventing me from interacting with the projects.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

*edit: The sound that plays when I click anywhere and nothing happens is the "Default Beep" sound.

Audacity 1.2 will not allow you to open two projects at once. You can have two active windows in the same project, but not two different projects. I don't think you can do any better in Audacity 1.3, but it's worth a shot. You should probably be in 1.3.12 for everything anyway. If you're doing fancy editing, you're almost certainly going to run into stability problems in Audacity 1.2

Here is a screenshot of what I'm dealing with:

Any ideas on how I can solve my specific problem right now? The only way I can see right now to exit is to end the process via Task Manager and that would probably lose my files that I don't have saved yet.

If each project still plays, the desperation method is to record the show onto an external "something." If you have a recorder like a Zoom, a Marantz, or a nice Mac, you can just plug the headphone out into the line-in and go. You can do this with a large deskside Windows machine, too, but not with most laptop Windows machines.

Install Audacity 1.3.12 on each of these machines to make it a recorder.

The uppermost project appears to contain just one silent track :?

Yeah its not though. I ended up doing what the other poster said and just re recorded it on my macbook. At least I didn't completely lose everything :|
