OK, so I'm a n00b at this, obviously. I make a selection of the track, so basically highligh the part of the track I want, and when I go to the menus most of hte options are greyed out, including the delete option.

How do I do this properly? I just can't figure it out.

Did you press Stop? If your recording is just paused, none of the tools work.
