Burned CD from audio project

I exported an Audacity file as a .wav file. Then I burned the .wav file onto a CD. (This is the first time I have tried this - I'm trying to figure all this out).
Unfortunately, the CD does not play in my car. It plays back on my computer.
I am wondering, is there something I did wrong in Audacity, in iTunes where I burned the CD, with my CD, or with car CD player?
Thanks for you help.

Almost certainly you have burned a "data CD" and not a "music CD".

See this page from the Audacity Wiki: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/How_to_burn_CDs

Thanks for the tip. I did have a CD-R (music CD) versus a CD-RW (data CD).
I am not sure why it didn't work, but when I exported it as an mp3, it played on my CD player.
Thanks.

OK, that's a third variation. The MP3 music on your Data CD played on the CD/MP3 player in the car.

You still haven't created a high quality (non MP3) Music CD. Somewhere in the burning dialog it should have asked you whether you wanted a Data CD or a Music CD. Both of them use CD-R disks.

A Music CD will play on just about all CD players including the one in your car. MP3 is a destructive compression process and always creates damage. If you try a CD player in somebody else's car that's a bit older, it may not be able to play your MP3 music, so it's good to know how to make the real thing.
