Track titles lost on transfer

Post by nugget » Thu Apr 24, 2008 3:43 am

I'm using version 1.2.6 on Windows XP (sp 2). After successfully labeling and exporting multiple WAV files with track names (I have selected the "use track names" option), I then lose the track names when I burn a CD using either Roxio or Nero and also lose them if I import the WAV files into itunes. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Basically WAV files do not carry the necessary metadata tags (in comparison MP3 files have ID3 metadata tags).

When exporting WAV files with labels the labels are used to name the file and that's all.

A useful tip: If you are recording a whole LP and keep the tracks in the right order, after creating the CD try opening it in iTunes - you may find that the Gracenote CDDB database recognizes it and provides the title/artist/track details etc. You can then just rip the CD to iTunes as you would with a commecial CD (remembering that youn can rip into iTunes as WAV). I get about 60% recognition from Gracenote with my LP=>CD transfers.

How do I keep WAV files in correct LP order? When I export them to a folder, they will not sort by track order and I would like to reproduce the LP accurately.

What I do is to create track titles thus: 01 <track_name_1>, 02 <track_name_2>, 03 <track_name_3> etc.

This then presents them in correct order in my CD burning s/w, RecordNow - and even if yours doesn't default to an alpha-numeric sort order - then you should be able to re-order them manually, easily guided by the numbering included in the filename.

The only minor problem this gives me is when I also export to MP3s - when I then need to edit the metadata tags, but not the MP3 filenames, to remove the 01, 02, 03 etc.

Very similar to WC - I name the tracks:

01trackname.wav
o2trackname.wav
......
