Where did the song come from? Audacity is not a universal music format translator. You have to meet it at least half-way.
Download the piano trill from here...

...and put it on a timeline by itself. It's really short. Did all the tools come back to life? Drag Highlighting? Effect tools?

You could try doing what I said in the other post. Does that little six second piece make it all the way through the process?
If it does, that means your original sound file is damaged and this will cause you constant problems. It's not supposed to be an uphill battle to edit and export a song.

Ok Iv tried another audio file and that works when trimmed.. onwards and upwards

Although the original song I tried is one I wanted.
I get this message when I try to export as MP3
[img=http://img224.imageshack.us/img224/493/ ... se3.th.png]
After clicking open I get this > Could not open MP3 encoding library
Obviously by the looks of that, I need LAME. Iv downloaded it before but I think its not working properly ? I think this may be the problem ?

Yes. Lame is a shareware MP3 generator based on licensed algorithms from Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft who owns MPEG1, Layer III (MP3). In order for Audacity to remain free, you have to put the MP3 tools in yourself.
Once you download the right (zip?? exe??) file from the Audacity web site, decompress it to the actual operating files and install them according to the instructions. I have no idea of the versions of Windows and other stuff you have, so it's up to you to find the right one.
Everybody always gets the wrong one the first time and it doesn't work.
I would totally be experimenting with this using a really short music file until you get it all to work. Then put your real performance in there.
