Dummy needs help badly

I am at work, and don't have access to my home computer so I can't answer too much.
About a year ago or so I downloaded audacity to my computer that runs with the windows version that came before 7. (I cant think of the os system name right now...wow).
Well, I have tapes from phone messages that I put on my computer with Audacity. I don't know how I even did it, but I was successful by the seat of my pants.

I need these files for a Trial in court on Friday, and I can't always get them to play and most times when I can they are now in little split up segments that I have to keep clicking onto.

Is there anyway someone can eplain to a complete moron, who can't even understand one word of the online manual on how to play these recordings so I can use them in court if need be?

I gave the DA the tapes because the big deal here bragged that I have them on my laptop.

They played last night as a fluke, and now I can't even get them to play again. They go to microsoft player and it says it can't play them.

I am doomed..........somebody please help me!

Thanks,
Lorain

Since Audacity doesn't Save sound files, what you produced are Audacity Projects. Instead of trying to play those thousands of little snippets, you should be looking for an AUP type of file. That's a Project Manager and it will jam all those other files into a show for you.

After you get that far, Export As WAV to get a good, stable, common sound file that you can make copies of and not go through this again.

Next time, Export WAV files right after you make a recording. Then you can make safety copies on a thumb drive or external drive.

There are still millions of things that can go wrong, but let's start there.

Thanks so much. I am going to print out what you suggested and bring it to a friend to help me. To be more honest, I am going to see if he can do it because I am a complete computer dummy.

I'll come back and let you know if we were successful or not.

I really appreciate your answering. Thanks a million!
