I've recorded a speech into a wav file with a small mp3 player but wanted to edit out some dead space at the beginning and end.
When I do so the resulting file is bigger than the original. Why?
It seems there would be less info there, not more.
I've imported with Audacity 1.2.3 clipped off the two ends and then exported as wav.

What was the original file format? (128 kbps MP3?)
What is the file format of the Exported file? (16 bit 44100 Hz WAV?)

A 128 kbps MP3 file is about 10 times smaller than the same audio in 16 bit 44100 Hz WAV format, but the MP3 encoding also causes a loss in sound quality. (see here http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MP3 )
