Hey everyone!
I just started using Audacity quite recently and I've been having some trouble. I used it once a few months ago and didn't have this problem, but now everytime I open a song in Audacity it speeds it up and plays the whole song in 0.055 seconds no matter how long the song actually is. I tried slowing it down but I can't get it back to the way it's supposed to be. It's kind of hard to explain..I think it might actually have something to do with where I'm taking the song file from, not Audacity..Like maybe the file I'm taking the songs from is compressed or something so I can't get the whole file or something. If anyone could help me figure this out that'd be great!! I'd really appreciate it!

You are almost certainly trying to import a file type that Audacity does not support. Audacity Supports WAV, MP3, OGG and FLAC & MP2 in 1.3.

The fast play is Audacity 1.2's inelegant way of telling you that it can't handle the file type you've given it - in 1.3.x a more appropriate and informative error message appears.

If this is the case you have two basic options:

1. find and use some converter software to convert your file to a type that Audacity supports

2. play the file in any music software that supports that particular file format and record it in Audacity.

Okay, thanks for that! I'll try using that 'SUPER' program to change the files...

I have the same problem except I'm using songs from itunes. I don't understand what's happening. Shouldn't it support files from itunes?
