What program do you launch that will tell you what kind of sound file you have?

If you have Windows file extensions turned off and somebody hands you a file with an icon you've never seen before, what do you do? QuickTime INFO will go a long way here, but let's assume you want to stay in the Land of Windows.

<<<I like file extensions>>>

So do I. However Windows comes with them turned off in order to be as Mac-like as possible. Oddly enough, Mac OS-X realizing what a disaster that decision was, let's you see them as default now.

If you want to keep your file types hidden, right click the file and select properties. It's listed under "Type of file".
