so i decided to download audacity, just for the fun of it. actually, i have this one song from a cd that i want to edit, but i have no clue how to do. it's a medley of songs, and i want to separate a certain part out so i can just listen to that one part without having to listen to all the songs. how would i do that?

Highlight the part you want to separate out.
Export selection.

Yep, it's that easy.

"File > Import"
[EDIT] - oops, that's for Audacity 1.3.x
For Audacity 1.2.6 it's in the Project menu.

A great way to get to know Audacity is to work through some of the tutorials:

There should be, unless you have some weird display problem. Alternatively, if the file is a WAV or MP3 you can simply use File - Open to load the file into Audacity.

The Import Audio option is under PROJECT at the top of Audacity , then simply select the file that you want to import .
