Audio I/O preferences
I am using Audacity 1.2.6 with an Ion USB Recorder and Windows XP. Having studied this forum I know not to select Microsoft Sound Mapper but that leaves me with Playback options of Realtek HD Audio rear output or USB Audio CODEC and Recording Device options of Line in/Mic in or USB Audio CODEC. I have tried various combinations of these options but can still hear no audio and do not appear to be recording anything. I have also checked for updates in Device Manager. Any other suggestions to get me started please?
Re: Audio I/O preferences
For recording from the turntable you need to select USB Audio CODEC as the recording input.
For playback, there should be an option for your soundards main (front) outputs. Check again to see if there is one. If you really only have the option of the rear speaker outputs, you may need to connect your speakers to the rear speaker socket.

Pauline - It sounds as though you had the same problem that I still have. I've just posted the details of mine and hadn't noticed yours. However I had already tried what was sugested but still cannot get any recording. Does your turntable plug into a USB socket and then it worked? How did you set up the Realtek panel?

Re: Audio I/O preferences
Peter - My turntable connects to a USB port via an Ion USB Recorder which does contain a pre-amp. I used Edit - Preferences - Audio I/O to select input and output (as the input selection was greyed out in the meter toolbar) but in addition to the input/output options I was recommended to use I also selected Software Playthrough. Have you tried this?
