Recording Softwear question

Post by jsalazar » Thu Sep 09, 2010 6:00 pm

I would like to use the software to record via the microphone input ( internal sound card ) on my PC. I would record audio continuously ( 24x7, 7 days a week ) but I only need to save and/or listen to the most recent weeks worth of recorded audio. Can you product do this ? How does your product use and manage memory and storage ? Can it be set up ( or does it default ) to use only a certain size block of memory or hard drive for recording then write over the oldest recorded data ( so that if it’s left on to record continuously it will continue to run and not crash the computer ) ? I am trying to find out if Audacity will operate in this continuous recording application. Please let me know.

Thank you,

Jesus

No it won't. Audacity can make very long recordings, but in order to play back you must stop recording. On standard computer hardware the practical limit tends to be around 12 hours, though theoretically you could record indefinitely, subject to the computer being sufficiently stable, the operating system being able to keep track of an infinite number of 1 MB data blocks and of course adequate hard drive space.
