Sounds On Different Computers

Post by Astro-Xana » Tue Apr 08, 2008 8:45 pm

When it comes to Audacity, I like to remix and create my own pieces of music by recording sounds/small portions of music from Youtube and such and organizing those sounds and using the effects on them to create my own pieces of music. Now for every new sound that is to be recorded and mixed into my music, I always work with stereo tracks and I will have up to 4-6 stereo tracks to work with. And when I export those 4-6 stereo tracks, I always export as an MP3 at 96000 Hz and a bit rate of 320. However though, despite the fact that the entire pieces of music I create sound nearly perfect on my computer, when I go and listen on other computers to make sure that my music sounds the same on other computers, there are often times the music sounds somewhat different in which some portions of audio are quiet and that there was actually one time a portion of audio actually got cut out. Therefore, how am I supposed to achieve universal sound? In other words, how can I make my music sound the same on all other computers?

So the real question you didn't ask is, "Why doesn't my computer sound as bad as everybody else's?" It's a common problem with producing a show. You don't want to be on a computer that's going to hide all the errors during production. You want the errors all clear and obvious so you can correct them before the client gets the show. There's just nothing like sending a show home with a client that sounds way different at his home than it did in your studio.

As played with what? Did you import the MP3 show back into a fresh Audacity and play it there? Did you try to play the work with Windows Media Player? I'm trying to think of questions that will give the most clues without being a total drudge (lower case "D").

If I can call your attention to one small section of a performance where the sound level seemed to change in an unplanned way. Does it do that exact same thing on more than one "foreign" computer? Like does it do the same thing on your mom's Mac and on next door neighbor's Windows machine? I'm trying to rule out a broken or damaged MP3.
