I am a new user of Audacity. My repeated attempts at playing my imported audio to find the exact spot I need to edit does not work. Hitting the 'play' button does nothing. Can somebody help me?

Could Audacity be playing the music super fast and you just get a noise click instead of the performance? Audacity will become unstable if it doesn't understand what kind of sound file you are presenting. Do you have a WAV file or MP3 that you recorded with Audacity and you know works? Do those performances play OK?
