Somebody please help an idot!

I'm new to forums, audio files, and Audacity. So, in short, I'm an idiot. I download a lot of audio books, old time radio, and podcasts. Some of these files are have very poor sound quality (i.e. echoes, scratchy, etc...). I'd like to know if there is a way to take the properties of a good sounding file and apply them to a poor one. Keep in mind I'm stupid about this stuff, so it would have to be an easy process or spelled out for a dummy.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
