Label Track Editing Problem

After I Import Labels I can not select a label to edit within Audacity.

I create a label track and add labels. This works OK until I make a mistake. Since Audacity's label editing is not very robust (all you can do is select, backspace from the end of the label & re-type) I Export Labels & edit in a text editor & then Import. But then all I can do is Add Label At Selection. That inserts the Label marker but I can't type any text even though the "insert" box looks like it is selected. From then on, I am stuck with having to export, import & delete old label track.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a limitation of Audacity?

This is a limitation of Audacity 1.2.x - label handliing is one of the much improved areas in the 1.3.x beta versions of Audacity.

It's one of the reasons I shifted to 1.3 several months ago - I now never use 1.2 as the later versions of 1.3 seem well stable for the work I do on Audacity which is LP/tape capture / cleanup / export. The only crash I've had recently on 1.3 was after repeated use of the Noise Removal in a project.

Maybe I ought to try 1.3.x? I just don't want to put up with a crashing Beta. Can I install it alongside 1.2.6?

Thanks! You're absolutely right about the label editing being much improved. Just what I wanted. Thanks again.

George,

you've obviously discovered that you can have 1.2 and 1.3 both installed on the same PC.

Just be aware that once a 1.2 project has been opened and saved in 1.3 it can never be reopened in 1.2 - this also obviosly applies too to projects created in 1.3.
