can anyone help. I've got windows vista and an audio file saved as wav. i need to change this to mp3. have tried to use "lame" but it's not supported. for any replies you will need to explain it as if i'm clueless

thanks for feedback could you recommend anything. have made recordings and they are due to go online Monday. will I be better off to use another recording product?

On Vista you should be using Audacity 1.3.12 which you can get from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/
If you already have the WAV files and you just need to convert them to MP3, you can use Foobar2000 (as suggested by Koz - Foobar2000 is also an excellent audio player and a very fast CD ripper and is free), or C-Dex (a free CD ripper and MP3 encoder with the addition of Lame), or SUPER (a free media format converter program by erightsoft - not the easiest to use but supports a huge range of file formats). Of these programs Foobar2000 is probably the easiest to set up and use.
