If you import it back into Audacity does it play?
Did it play in Audacity before you exported it?
If you try playing a known good file in WMP does it play?

Can we take it back a few steps.
What are you trying to record and how are you trying to record it. What equipment and what software/operating system versions are you using?
If you are just starting off, I'd recommend you use the latest Audacity 1.3.12 which you can get from here: http://audacityteam.org/download/

I'm trying to record a practice demo for voice over.I have the most current version of Audacity.I downloaded LAME.I'm using Windows Vista. The mic is an Audio Technica 2020 usb.I don't know what to set the preferences at.I recorded the copy in stereo originally but when I play it back off the desktop there's no audio just the waveform.

Some Windows machines like to assign all the sound services to a USB device when it arrives. That means your computer is trying to send the performance back to the microphone.

You can reassign that with the Windows Control Panels.
