Issues when Palm Muting
I've been planning to make guitar covers for a long time now and I've finally got the chance to get all the equipment I need, and I've been using Audacity for almost a week now. And the software is great. There's just one problem. Whenever I start palm muting (while recording), and mix it with the actual song I'm playing, the palm muting always seems to be slower during the playback, like some sort of audio lag. I've searched everywhere for some answers but so far I had no luck, and I seem to be the only one who's having these troubles.
Is this normal? If so, is it Audacity itself? Is it the equipment I'm using? Is it just me?
Please let me know.
Thanks.

Re: Issues when Palm Muting
Are you trying to record against playback of an existing track? If so, try http://wiki.audacityteam.org/wiki/Troub ... ings#drift
Erratic issues like this are most likely to be issues with the drivers of the sound device you are recording with:

I'm not a music performer. What's "Palm Muting?" Your complaint reads like the live performance only slows down when you touch your guitar strings in a certain way. Is that what you meant to write?

I read the issue like you did, but it makes no sense, so assume it is really some kind of intermittent issue with the sound device, and palm muting is coincidence.
I suppose it could be some level-dependent effect the sound card produces, in which case the user should turn all the effects off.

Isn't there a setting that only records when the volume is above a set level? If you have that messed up, it's possible muted performing could intermittently fall below the recording threshold and create a damaged track. Damaged musically. The tool is supposed to do that.

Re: Issues when Palm Muting
Yes, Sound Activated Recording in the Transport Menu pauses and unpauses according to the threshold level you set. But that isn't how I read lite22z' s report. He/she said the palm mute was slower, not that it didn't exist or had pieces missing out of it (which would make it seem to speed up).kozikowski wrote:Isn't there a setting that only records when the volume is above a set level? I wish they would post back. We're assuming they're overdubbing, but it's possible not.

Hey guys. Sorry for the late reply.
I had the problem fixed. Turns out I was recording through my GX, but not playback on the same device.
Thanks heaps.
