Audio on video clips

Is it possible to use the Audacity software to work with the audio on music video clips? I have downloaded some (no restrictions) and each clip has a different level of audio, some real high, some real low. I'd like to be able to equalize the sound across all clips before I burn them.

You will need to use a video editing program to split the audio out of the video and stitch it back in again, but yes Audacity can be used to edit/process the audio once you have extracted it from the video. However, if all you want to do is to adjust the volume, then most video editing packages should have that feature built in.

Thank you for such a quick response and the info you provided. I have several video editing programs but most of them either can't equalize the volumn so that all clips are equal or they don't do a very good job.
I guess I'll try Audacity and give it a shot even though sounds involved and maybe not worth the effort. Only music videos.
Again, thank you very much.

There is an Audacity plugin called Chris's Compressor that does a terrific job of leveling out show sound without seeming to do anything bad.
But you still need the editors to split out the sound and recombine it later. This is also much harder if the video has surround or Dolby sound. You can take that sound out, but you need a Dolby license to put it back.

Thank you also kozikowski. That's the problem I've been having with the video editors. Seems none of them work. I appreciate the info and will be downloading Audacity and look for the plug-in. I'm rather new at this so I'm sure I'll be back here looking for more tips.
Of all the forums I've visited/used, this seems to be the best going. All you contributors, great job. Appreciate your help.

This is a third party plug-in and is available from here:
