Recordings in "stereo" appear in mono

Recordings in "stereo" appear in mono
According to the manual I selected Stereo for recordings, but when I play the recordings, they are in mono. When I open other music recordings in Audacity, they sure are in stereo. As far as I know, there is no mono/stereo switch on my ION iTTUSB10 recordplayer. What can I do to get stereo recordings?

Which version of Windows are you using?
If you're using Windows 7 (possibly also Vista) you may need to enable "stereo" as the recording format in the Control Panel (Start > Control Panel)
