Temp Solution for No "Stereo Mix" Option re: Vista

I have a Dell laptop (XPS M1710) with a SigmaTel audio device. The newest drivers for 32bit Vista were created in early 2007. No matter what I do, I cannot get an option for 'Stereo Mix" under Audio I/O recording preference. I also did the recommended setting to "Show Disabled Devices".
My work around is that I bought a "line in" cable and a "two into one headset jack" (you can play two headsets at the same time). I put one end into the microphone and one end into the headset jack. I then plugged a head set into the extra headset jack. This allows me to hear and record via the "microphone line in" option.
At least it is a "work around"
BTW: I did a search using No+Stereo+Mix+Vista and did not see a solution for SigmaTel. If this is already mentioned, I apologize for a double post.
^^Grumpy^^
