New Forum member, please be patient!
I've been successfully using Audacity for about a year on my XP desktop.
I've got a new laptop running Windows 7
I can record a BBC Radio 3 programme and Export it as a MP3 file.
When I transfer this to my Creative ZEN MP3 player, no sound?
I have installed LAME lame_enc.dll
I'd be grateful for any help.

No sound when creating MP3 files?

Re: No sound when creating MP3 files?
Chances are excellent you never had a BBC recording and both the capture and the export are silent. Win7 is much less likely to let you record internet sound. Microsoft is getting militant about that.
After you captured the BBC show and before you exported it, did you have blue waves on the timeline and does the bouncing light sound meter work when you play the show?

This is an exactly normal playback. Your window sizes may be different.
This is a thing written on how to capture computer or internet sound.

Koz, thanks for this very helpful and prompt response.
You're dead right.
<... did you have blue waves on the timeline and does the bouncing light sound meter work when you play the show?>
Just a solid straight blue line!
Funnily enough, when lying awake in bed last night thinking about it (as one does!), I thought I'd check exactly what you said in the morning.
But you have confirmed it for me. Thanks very much.
This is (Windows 7) maybe another case of Hutber's Law (I think) "more means less" !
Anyway, I'll look at the link you sent me about how to capture computer or internet sound.
Best wishes, Peter

Re: No sound when creating MP3 files?
Koz, I've had a look at the link you sent me.
I feel a bit out of my depth really (too technical), but I'm willing to try .....
When I right click on the Speaker icon to the right in the Task Bar, then click Recording Devices, I get the Sound .... (what do you call this?)
I can see that it says "Line In - Realtek High Definition Audio Not plugged in"
Could this be my problem?
Does it need to be "plugged in".
You may recall that I'm running Windows 7 on a brand new Acer laptop.
Grateful for your advice again.

Re: No sound when creating MP3 files?
Your guess is a good as mine. I need to take my mask of and reveal...a Mac elf. You're heavy into Windows control panels and really need the attention of a Windows elf.

Koz, oh no! I've been communicating with a Mac person. Horror.
Time to leave Audacity and find some better software I think.
Thanks for your time.

Anyway, I'm typing this on a Vista box .....
Can we go back to the beginning with this -
When you have "recorded" it, can you then play it back (from Audacity)?pswinbank wrote:I can record a BBC Radio 3 programme ....
Do you have a visible waveform in Audacity or just a flat blue line along the track?
