Sometimes, when I record vocals and then play them back, the track is missing little chunks of the vocal line, as if they were deleted.
Thus, the vocals get sped way up, ending well before they're supposed to. It's like they've been compressed into an abbreviated version, which sounds like it's been run through a vocoder or something, digitally chopped up like a "Cher" song.
Why is this happening, and how can I fix it?
Thanks.
Why are bits of the vocal track not playing back?

When I read that, I picture somebody in a quiet room singing in front of a microphone and maybe playing a guitar. Is that what you're doing?

Why do you picture that?
With the exception of the guitar part, it's basically right.

Was there a reason you asked this question, Koz?kozikowski wrote:<<<Sometimes, when I record vocals and then play them back, the track is missing little chunks of the vocal line, as if they were deleted.>>>

What he means is how were you recording and what were you recording - what is the hardware and software chain?
You will have to yield a bit more information before anybody can help you - otherwise we are in the dark and it's just guesswork!

Re: Why are bits of the vocal track not playing back?
Remembering that we're spread out over all time zones, what most people mean by recording live, is capturing a "live" internet show. No microphone needed. So "Live" recording has lost it's punch. I've taken to asking if the person doing the recording can buy the performer a coffee and can they drink it.
You'd be surprised the number of times that test fails.
I ask that because the two types of "live" performance are very different and have very different problems.
<<<Sometimes, when I record vocals and then play them back, the track is missing little chunks of the vocal line, as if they were deleted.>>>
But most of the time, you sing in to the microphone and it plays back just fine? Which Windows have you got? If it's Vista or Win7, then you should probably be using Audacity 1.3.12...

Audacity 1.2 is very old and has stability troubles with modern computers.

I am indeed using 1.2.6 (on Windows 7).kozikowski wrote:Which Windows have you got? If it's Vista or Win7, then you should probably be using Audacity 1.3.12...Audacity 1.2 is very old and has stability troubles with modern computers.
I will try 1.3.12, and see if that solves the problem.
Thanks for the tip!
