Splitting *SOMETIMES* causes half the track to be moved!

Post by bgd » Thu Aug 05, 2010 1:02 pm

This is driving me insane, and it has for some time now. The issue is that, occasionally, I'll want to split a track in half. No problem, I put my cursor where I want it split, then I select "split." About 60% of the time, the track is split. About 40%, the track is not only split, but the section to the RIGHT (i.e. later in the timeline) to the cursor gets transported to a completely random spot back on the timeline (within the same track, though). Unless you are zoomed all the way out, it looks like that portion of the track actually disappears. But then when you zoom out or scroll left, you'll see that it's actually way back earlier in the timeline. Someone please help before I go insane.

Using Vista.

Are you really using 1.2 which is the Forum you posted in? 1.2 can only split if you select a region.

If you are using 1.2 or an early Beta version, please upgrade to the current 1.3.12 Beta. Check your version at Help > About Audacity. We are no longer developing 1.2, but I think I can recall a bug like you mention which was fixed in Beta quite some time ago.

If you are using 1.3.12 already, then can you give precise steps 1, 2, 3... from launch of Audacity. We need to know how zoomed in you are already, where and in what length of track you are splitting, and if you are splitting at a cursor point or a region.
