Can't change Hz rate

Whenever I try to save a wav file, even if I specify it as a different rate, it saves it as a 48khz file.

I have tried everything to save it as a 44.1khz file, but it just keeps saving it as 48khz. I can't figure out why. Can anyone help?

Just to avoid traveling down the wrong road... Audacity does not save sound files. To get a sound file, you File > Export, not Save.

Audacity 1.3 will allow you to change the sound format on Export. In Audacity 1.2, you have to change the project sampling rate with the little window at the lower left of the show.

To change the default sample rate for the whole world, set it in Audacity Preferences. Be sure to restart Audacity if you change anything like that.

We send people off to Audacity 1.3.12 all the time. Audacity 1.2 doesn't always get along with modern computers.

I meant export, not save. I tried both 1.2 and the beta version, but it still will not let me save it as anything but 48 khz. I also tried editing the preferences.
I never had this problem before, and have used Audacity many times before to save wav files as 44.1 khz, so I am not sure what is causing it.

What are your Audacity Preferences set to and how do you know you have a 48000 song? 48000, 16-bit, Stereo is the television sound standard.

Under preferences, I have set: Default sample rate 41000 hz
Default sample rate 16bit

After exporting a wav file, when I click Properties on the file, it will say under "summary" 48kHz, 16 bit.

Set your Audacity Preferences to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. Restart Audacity. Generate > Tone. Pick five or six seconds and any audible frequency. I like 440 Hz.

Is the Project rate in the lower left 44100?

It will probably arrive as a mono sound track. Export it to a WAV file. What does Windows think that one is?

Aha. So I had to select "set project rate" to 44.1

I didn't know that was even there..but I saw it, and it was at 48. I changed it and it now works.
Thank you so much!
