Ok, I have already done a couple of searches for the latency problem I'm having & this novice is still Very confused. (ie: when multi-tracking w/ my guitar, one of them is not in-time w/ the others)
What exactly is the general consensus for a fix IF there is one?
What are "stable" or "unstable" versions of Audacity? All I know is, I downloaded 1.2-something version.
My laptop:
Dell i6000
1.39 GHz
760 MB of RAM
Thanks for any help

IIRC there is better control/management of latency in the 1.3.x Beta version of Audacity. Don't worry too much about the "unstable" warning - 1.3 is now in it's later stages of development with the developers working hard to get 1.4 out the door. I have used only 1.3 for several months now, with no real problems.
I also seem to remember that there was a good posting in the 1.3 section of the forum on how to fix the latency issue (author would have one of alatham, kozikowski or stevethefiddle) try searching some more.
When you might want to worry about "instability" is just after 1.4 release when the developers make the next new beta release (probably 1.5.0/1). Early beta versions are only for the brave and the technically competent - and definitely should not be used for critical one-off recordings. Early betas are designed to let knowledgeable power users experiment and provide bug feedback to the developers.
